Dr Huijun Shen, MB, MM (China), MATCM (UK), a professor and consultant from China’s top university hospital of TCM, is well –qualified and highly experienced in both conventional western and traditional Chinese medicine. He possesses 2 medical degrees from Beijing and Shanghai Universities of TCM, with over 30 years of clinical experience in both China and the UK.

Being the former president of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture UK, he is currently one of the most highly qualified Chinese medicine doctors in the UK, who had the honour to be invited to St James Palace to meet His Royal Highness Prince Charles in May 2003.

Since 2005, Dr Shen has been teaching acupuncture and TCM as a senior lecturer and clinic director of acupuncture programme in University of Lincoln. He also teaches TCM in other European countries such as the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.

Dr Yan Zhang, MB (China), MATCM (UK), graduated from the Capital Medical University in Beijing in 1983 and was a physician and then a consultant in Beijing Fu Xing Hospital for 15 years. Also highly qualified and well experienced, she has been practicing TCM including acupuncture in the UK for nearly 20 years and has successfully treated thousands of UK patients.

Although TCM has been proven to be very effective in the treatment of many conditions and very safe over centuries of use in China, it could still be harmful if administrated by inadequately trained persons. It is essential that only properly qualified practitioners should prescribe Chinese herbal medicine and practise acupuncture as it takes several years of specialized study to understand the whole system of TCM.

To see a Chinese medicine doctor, you are advised to inspect his/her qualification to ensure you are treated by a dab hand since in the UK and some other European countries, anybody can practise herbal medicine legally but not everyone is well qualified and highly experienced.
